The Cootamundra Nursing Home was founded 1986 as a result of the amalgamation of the town’s two hospitals. Established as a community owned and not for profit facility, a donation of $500,000, local council support and the Cootamundra community raised the funds to build the first stage of the facility housing 50 beds.
In the years that followed there was a pressing need for increased care and in 1994 a palliative care suite was established.
Typical of country commitment and community spirit the facility continued to expand and cater for the needs of the districts frail and aged residents. In 2005 increased allocation of beds was granted. Ellendale wing was constructed as a dementia specific unit. In 2006 capital expenditure was received and the McKellar wing was added to provide single ensuited rooms.
CNH is a not for profit organization that offers excellence in residential care for the frail and aged.
The 61 bed facility provides 3 types of residential care:
Respite care is offered to people who are convalescing from surgery, taking a trial before becoming a permanent resident or allowing their carer to take a break.
High Care is provided for residents who require around the clock, 24 hour nursing care to assist with their daily activities. This may be because they are physically incapacitated or suffer from physical or behavioral problems.
Dementia Care is provided in our secure Ellendale wing. Residents are provided with specialist dementia care personnel who offer a variety of activities to assist with stimulation and life experience.
Our vision is to continue to offer and expand high care residential services for the frail and aged in Cootamundra and district which will be accessible, affordable, accountable, of high quality and relevant to the needs of our community. Regardless of status, race, ethnicity and religion.
